According to reports, author Max Allan Collins, whose "Road To Perdition" graphic novel was adapted by director Sam Mendes ("American Beauty") as a 2002 DreamWorks feature, starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Daniel Craig and Jude Law, has written a sequel screenplay titled "Road To Purgatory", currently available as a novel. Mendes' "Road To Perdition" grossed $180 million.
"It does look like, now, that I won't be directing, but it is my script," said Collins about his "Purgatory" screenplay. "That's the most important thing to me, that the material be faithfully rendered...I will tell you that it will happen about 10 years after 'Perdition' ends."
The "Road To Perdition" screenplay, adapted by David Self, was set during the Great Depression, following a mob enforcer and his son as they seek vengeance against a killer who murdered the rest of their family.
Filming took place in the Chicago area, lensed by DP Conrad L. Hall, who won a 'Best Cinematography' Oscar for his work on the film.
