Vincenzo Natali, director of the Toronto-lensed, Canadian horror
feature "Splice" is now rooting for a 3D adaptation of DC Comics' "Swamp Thing" for producer Joel "Lethal Weapon" Silver.
Silver is developing the project for Warner/DC Entertainment.
The 'Swamp Thing' character, considered a 'plant elemental' in the DC Comics Universe, was created by writer Len Wein and illustrator Berni
Wrightson, first published in DC's "House of Secrets" #92 (July 1971).
The character then spun-off into 4 comic book titles, pictured as a humanoid mass of vegetable matter who fights to protect his swamp home,
the environment and humanity from supernatural and terrorist threats. Powers include the ability to regrow damaged body parts,
to transport his consciousness to a new form grown from whatever vegetable matter is present in the location he wishes to
reach and able to control any form of plant life.
"Swamp Thing" has so far provided two theatrical films, a live-action TV series and five-part animated series.
