Producer Joel "Lethal Weapon" Silver has revealed that his developing
feature adaptation of DC's "Sgt. Rock" for Warners, to be directed by Francis "I Am Legend" Lawrence, is going to take "Sgt. Rock" "...a little bit in the future", similar to Marvel Comics' ''Sgt. Fury'' evolving into "Nick Fury: Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D".
"As
a war movie, it's not going to be 'where it's been,' it's going to be 'where it's going'", he said.
"We didn't want to do Iraq, we didn't want to do a contemporary war.
We wanted to do a sort of futuristic war. It's pretty strong. Chad St. John wrote the script and we've got Francis Lawrence
involved in developing it with us."
Also on board "Sgt. Rock" is producer Akiva "The Da Vinci Code" Goldsman, with Andrew Rona and Weed Road's Kerry Foster.
'Sgt. Frank Rock' debuted in DC Comics' "Our Army at War" #83 (June 1959), from writer Robert Kanigher and illustrator Joe Kubert. During World War II, Rock was a non-commissioned soldier who fought for the infantry
branch of the US Army in the European Theatre. He rose to authority within
his unit 'Easy Company', participating in every major action in Europe throughout the war...
