According to reports, producer James Cameron and director Guillermo
del Toro are in pre-production on a 3D Universal Pictures adaptation of author H.P. Lovecraft’s horror novella "At The Mountains Of Madness".
Written by Lovecraft in 1931, "At The Mountains Of Madness" was originally serialized in the February, March and April 1936 issues of the pulp magazine "Astounding Stories", representing
the decisive 'demythology' of Lovecraft's supernatural 'Cthulhu Mythos' in a science fiction paradigm.
"...Geologist 'William Dyer', a professor
from 'Miskatonic University', informs the reader that he plans to disclose unknown and closely kept secrets in the hope that
he can deter a scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition, a party of scholars from the University, led
by Dyer, discovered fantastic ruins and the remains of fourteen ancient life forms, unidentifiable as either plants or animals.
Six of the specimens are badly damaged, while the the others are uncannily pristine, with highly-evolved features resembling
creatures of myth mentioned in the 'Necronomicon', and they are dubbed the 'Elder Things'..."
